CHAPTER FOURTEEN
Hannah
âExcuse me?â I visibly balked at the piece of equipment in front of me and then looked at Simon. âWhat do you mean I wonât exist anymore?â
He leaned back and indicated the laptop and box in front of me. âIn there youâre going to find everything you need to become your sister. Did you think this was going to be as easy as just showing up and claiming to be Sybil?â He shook his head. âCome on Hannah, youâre smarter than that.â
I inwardly cringed at his admonishment. To be honest I hadnât considered the exact details of what would need to happen for me to assume Sybilâs role. So yeah, in essence, I had thought I could just stroll into the conference, get what was needed, and get the fuck out of there. I didnât realize Iâd need to give up my whole identity to do it. My dadâs words from earlier in the morning came back to me but I brushed the thought aside. He was wrong. This is what you did for someone you loved.
Rue picked up where he left off, not bothering to look at me as she plugged in some equipment and began tapping on the laptop. âTo become Sybil Kelly, weâre going to need to overlay your identity with hers. But to do that Hannah Kelly canât exist anymore. Your identity and footprint are all over federal government records. If anyone gets any hint that you arenât who you say you are, all theyâll need to do is run one quick background search, and bam, youâre fucked harder than a porn star in a gang bang marathon.â
My mouth gaped. I wasnât sure what shocked me more, the fact that she was right or that she might have a more foul and descriptive mouth than me. I turned to Simon. âSeriously, you gave me shit about my language but you donât even bat an eye at that?â
Evan let out half a laugh and I turned back towards him. âSi gave you the âLadies donât curse.â speech huh?â When I didnât say anything he continued, âHe tried to get Rue to clean up her language too, but as you can see that didnât work out so well. He has a thing about women who swear. Weâre not sure if itâs a kink or some other OCD tick he has.â
I eye Rue as she kept her eyes locked on the screen. âIs that true? Did he also call you lass every 5 seconds and pin you up against walls against your will?â
She snorted and didnât look up. âFuck no, that would be gross and perverted considering when he tried to get me to stop I was 13. But he did try the hot sauce on my tongue until he realized I was raised in a Cajun house and hot sauce is basically baby food to me.â
âGreat, why am I the lucky one then? And wait, youâve been working for him since you were 13?â Micheal, who until that moment had been so silent and still that Iâd forgotten he was there, spoke up.
